Juan Trias de Bes (Barcelona, 1964) is an architect who graduated from the Higher Technical School of Architecture of Barcelona in 1991. He opened his professional studio, TDB ARQUITECTURA, in 1992 in Barcelona, where he continues to work in the fields of building and urban planning.
He is a full member of the European Royal Academy of Doctors and served as president of the 2018 Annual of the Bucharest Order of Architects. Recently, he has been honored as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation of the Construction Board of the SAGRADA FAMILIA.
He is the author of institutional works such as the Headquarters of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Catalonia and the Balearic Islands, the Headquarters of Grífols Laboratories, and the ESADE University at the Sant Cugat del Vallés Campus (Barcelona).
In the field of rehabilitation, he has completed projects such as the Mandarin Oriental Hotel on Passeig de Gracia in Barcelona, the ESADE Convention Center in Barcelona, the modernist building “Casa Burés” (nominated for the EUMiesaward22), and the baroque palace “Palau Moxo.”
In the field of research, he is a member of the Technological Innovation Laboratory (LITEIS) at UIC Barcelona, where he leads the Research Department “hARQware Chair.”
In the field of teaching, he is a tenured professor and head of the Projects area at the School of Architecture (UIC bcn). He has been a guest professor at various international courses and conferences.
In the field of dissemination and knowledge, he received the “Cum laude” distinction for his Doctoral Thesis in 2013, titled “MATERIAL ARCHITECTURES” from ETSAB. He has also been a speaker at various architecture seminars and is the author of several articles in specialized publications on architectural thought, project theory, and his own work. In 2016, he was doubly awarded the Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism (BEAU XIII) in the categories of research and dissemination.
